PILES IN EKKI

ARE OF USAGE

Piles in ekki replace those in metal when the ground is homogenous and without any blocks and their lengths are inferior to 8m.
Ekki has a high durability (>25 years) and does not require any treatment or upkeep.
The high elasticity of this wood minimises the damage done to boats wich cazn result from any sudden shock.
STORING OF PILES
Planks are more often delivered in packets. They should be stored outside, laid flat and packed tightly against each other, this will prevent the loss of humidity wich could in turn lead to torsion and cracking. During the time of storage, It is strongly recommended to leave packets intact for as long as possible and to protect the wood from intense sunshine by covering it with a tarpaulin or a black PVC cover. These conditions are the same for all other ekki applications.
FORM
The high density of this wood makes its use in water easy; The fitting together of planks is done by tongue and groove:
Piles form

Piles can be equiped with a notch to facilitate plugging. The angle of this notch depends on the nature of the ground.
The width of piles varies from 15 to 55cm depending on the flow in the channel (width fixed on demand). However for piles of more than 8cm thick, widths of 20cm plus are often used.
PUTTING INTO USE
This is done as for metallic piles. However, to obtain a good join it is advisable to use a small hand winch.
Notch
ANGLE PIECE

Special pieces like this allow sudden changes in direction.
LIERNE
The lierne is made up of small beams in ekki. To insure a continuous liaison pieces are linked between themselves according to different models of assembly :
  1. Notch in the middle of the wood
  2. Slanting notch
  3. Variant of number 2
Anchor
ANCHORS

Anchors can be formed from ekki panels or from shuttering assembled into panel. The shutters of piles are in most cases more rigid and stable, and are often thinner and shorter wich makes them more economical.
The dimensions of the sole of the anchorage will be studied later on.
